The Bubble Gum Battle: Reader Poll
Bubble Gum has been around in America for almost 100 years, and it’s pretty much always been cool, but it used to be REALLY cool when we were like 10. I once spent the day after Easter at my family doctor for the most god awful earache known to man. Turns out it wasn’t an earache, it was Temporomandibular joint disorder and it was because I had been eating an assload of gum since sunrise of the easter egg hunt which concluded with me finding a freaking bucket of bubble gum to be chewed at my hearts content.

How many of you have ever finished an entire bucket of gum? The pieces of gum in those buckets have flavor that last about 30 seconds then you’ve gotta pop 3 more in. I still curse my mom everytime she sends me a package of bubble gum (yes, she still does) as I shovel 4 or 5 pieces in my mouth at once. I’m not going to let it go to waste. I didn’t go through 4 years and thousands of dollars of painful orthodontics just to push that sweet sugary freedom aside!
Bubble gum is so awesome, it has it’s own section at the store! There were like 40 different kinds of bubble gum to choose from when I was 8. Now all I buy is mint flavored, sugarless crap because my dentist says to. In a tribute to the days when our teeth didn’t hurt and we felt it neccessary to obtain sugar rushes at all times of the day, we want the readers to vote on the favorite gum of their childhood. I was always intrigued by Zebra Stripe. Bubble Tape was always a disappointment.
Zebra stripe DID taste funny, and a different kind of funny each time. Bubble tape was superior, always.
I would like to correct myself the gum is “Fruit Stripes” and it has a Zebra on it. The gum always tasted like it was just a little bit stale, but still chewable. I never understood it.
I am shocked at the responses. I can’t believe Bubble Tape won. I think the Gumball should have gotten a few, it was my #2. Maybe it’s EVERYBODY’S #2 and that’s why it didn’t get any votes.
I remember the pizza place accross from my school had a gumball machine where you could win a free slice. I think they had too many winners in there. Never bought them for the gumballs, just the pizza.
I always liked the gum you would get inside a package of hockey cards. Some others that arent on the list, that I liked are…. the band-aid bubble gum, B.L.C., Bubble Tape, the gum that tastes like soap HAHAHA
